On the afternoon of July 17, the draw for the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers in Asia took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – the headquarters of the Asian Football Confederation.
The 40 best teams have been divided into 8 unpredictable groups. And one of the most attractive groups is Group C with the appearance of Iran, Iraq, Bahrain, Hong Kong and Cambodia teams.
In this group, Iran is the most appreciated team. And that’s why the coach of the Iranian team is very confident in their chances of progressing.
Sharing with the media, coach Marc Wilmots expressed confidence when talking about the Iran team’s opportunities and goals in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers:
“I respect the other opponents in this group but we will try to be first. The team must pass this qualifying round. Our goal is not just to get through the group stage.”
Iran has the right to be confident because they are one of the top teams in Asia. At the 2018 World Cup, Iran won tickets to attend. They had an impressive performance when they beat Morocco, drew Portugal and only lost to Spain.
Iran will open the 2022 World Cup qualifiers with a match against Hong Kong. The confrontation between Hong Kong and Iran will take place on September 10.
