Tonight (December 16), the draw for the knockout round of the UEFA Champions League 2019/20 took place in Nyon (Switzerland). Lucky draws have created many interesting matches, including the match between Barcelona and Napoli.
Although appreciated more than the representative from Italy, the Barca leadership is still quite cautious before the encounter in the 1/8 round of the C1 Cup. Accordingly, the CEO of the Catalan giants – Guillermo Amor admitted Napoli is a very unpleasant opponent.
Speaking to the press after the draw, CEO Guillermo Amor said: “All the teams that reached the knockout stages are very strong and difficult to play, we need to be prepared for any results ahead.”
“It would be disrespectful to say which opponent is easier than the other. Napoli is an incredibly complicated and frustrating opponent. They just had a change on the bench and coach Gennaro Gattuso has the same weight as Carlo Ancelotti.”
“Barca aim to get a good result away from home before returning to the Nou Camp. Napoli’s San Paolo stadium is a very lively but relatively ‘noisy’ arena. But our players like it.”
In the 19/20 UEFA Champions League, Barca is very determined to reach the final after being knocked out twice in the quarterfinals (before AS Roma) and in the semi-finals (against Liverpool) in the last 2 seasons.
In the draw ceremony tonight, besides the match between Barcelona and Napoli, there are many other notable battles such as Real Madrid – Man City, Chelsea – Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid – Liverpool.
