Flick bid farewell to Bayern, leaving open the possibility of leading Germany

“I told the whole team today that right after the game in Paris I will terminate my contract at the end of the season,” Flick confirmed to Sky Germany.

Coach Hansi Flick said a job with the German team was something he would consider if offered after announcing his decision to leave Bayern Munich. He denied having held talks with the leaders of the German Football Federation (DFB) about replacing Joachim Low.

Coach Flick confirms farewell to Bayern

The 56-year-old strategist has put an end to recent speculation about his future, saying he has asked Bayern to terminate his contract at the end of the season, even though the deal has two years left.

Flick has been suggested to take over as Germany’s next head coach when Low steps down after Euro 2020. “Of course DFB is an option that every coach has to consider,” he told Sky Sport Germany. “But the past few weeks have not been easy for me.”

“I’m in the process of notifying the club and my team, which is very important. There’s nothing more to say about that.”

When asked if he had a future, Flick said: “No, my future is not clear. I have not held negotiations yet. [với DFB] because we’re having an important part of the season.”

Flick replaced Niko Kovac as the Gray Lobster in November 2019 and won the Bundesliga, German national cup and Champions League treble in his first season as captain of the Allianz Arena team.

However, it has been reported that Flick and Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic are at odds over the club’s decision not to offer Jerome Boateng a new contract.

Flick’s era at Bayern is coming to an end

“The reason I wanted to leave was something that was discussed internally and that will remain internally,” Flick said. “We have done very well here for almost two years. I am impressed with this team, the quality and the attitude of the players.”

Flick’s announcement came after Bayern’s 3-2 win over Wolfsburg, a victory that helped the reigning Bundesliga champions trail RB Leipzig by 7 points with 5 games remaining.
