Coach Flick bid farewell to Bayern to lead Germany after Euro

Coach Hansi Flick has led Bayern Munich to many successes, since taking over the team to replace his predecessor Niko Kovac in November 2019. He won 6 titles in 18 months leading the Bavarian Gray Lobster.

Last month, it was announced that coach Joachim Low would step down as Germany coach after Euro 2020, and Flick was one of the names mentioned as a potential successor.

Flick will replace Low to lead the German team

Speaking to German newspaper Sky, former player Matthaus believes that Bayern’s early exit from the Champions League this season when losing to PSG prompted Flick to decide to become Low’s replacement.

“I said two weeks ago that in my opinion, this is Hansi Flick’s last season at the team,” he said. “I said that Hansi Flick is at the top of the DFB list [Liên đoàn bóng đá Đức], and then nothing else for a long time. There has been an offer from the DFB.”

“So they want Hansi Flick and I think – or rather, I’m convinced – that Hansi Flick will no longer be the coach of Bayern after this season.”

“That means the last game of the season against Augsburg at home will be Hansi Flick’s last game as Bayern head coach.”

And according to Matthaus, Bayern have plans for a successor to Flick, with RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann identified as the man they want to bring in.

“Bayern talked a little bit with [Julian] Nagelsmann, including on financial matters,” Matthaus added.

Bayern Munich are ready for the departure of coach Flick

“Before the start of this season, Flick said that the manager should have a vote on new signings, which I think is right. As a manager, what will I do with the players I have? doesn’t seem to want?”

“I think it affected Hansi Flick too much, and then the offer, the opportunity to be Low’s successor. He was hard to turn down.”
